Web Page Design |
|
What is HTML? HTML is the language that Web browsers use to display pages on the Internet. HTML, or hypertext markup language, is what this class focuses on teaching. Students start by learning the basic tags that are need to create a Web page, namely the HTML tag and the HEAD and BODY tags. Students also quickly learn how to close these tags and how they work.
As the class progresses, students learn more difficult tags and they learn about attributes. Before the class is over, students are taught how to create style sheets and how to link them to the HTML documents.
Throughout this class, students are taught by hands on work, making many Web pages as they go. Students are also given a chance to make their own Web page, which they can update as the class progresses. Many students publish these Web pages so that anyone in the world can see them. A good example of this is Joshua Laughlin's Site, which he created in Web Page Design class.
For their final grade, students go into the community and find a business that does not have a web site. The students then work with these businesses and create Web sites for them. The students can also create Web sites for a club in the school. The FBLA portion of this site was the project of a Web Page Design student. In this way, all of the businesses get their Web sites published online. Some businesses even purchase their own domains and use the Web sites that our students created.
This class is amazing and plenty of fun. Students learn a lot about the Internet and computers by taking this class. This class helps students prepare for the PSSA's as well, because students must write their own pages and search for errors in grammar and spelling. Students also must learn memorization skills so that they can remember their tags and attributes. This is probably the most fun class in the business wing, so sign up and learn to make a Web page today!
